June, entered basic 202 School Goodfellow AFB, SanAngelo, TX completed 202 school and assigned to first Y202 (Radio Printer) class—completed April 1960.
Arrived At Karamursel Turkey AFB Tuslog-Det 3, 14 May 1960-Oct 61. Assigned to Dog flight for 12 months. Last 6 months, assigned to an Analytic reporting group working straight mids, but lived in Dog House. Started out living in Quonset hut for month or so, moved into barracks.
Activities: Played fast-pitch softball for two teams in both leagues. Water skied, snorkeled, made a lot of trips to the Bul, visited local sights and took a tour to Turkey Holy Land area around Izmere. Was local radio station DJ, top 40, under name Bullet Bob, for last six months. Saw the opening of a theatre, bowling alley on base family housing, and Airman’s Club a couple weeks prior to leaving October 1961.
Married Joan (Bolze-highschool classmate) while on leave before reporting to Kelly AFB, USAFSS, San Antonio TX Dec l961. Still married, #40 coming up. Had one daughter--Robin Jo (Jensen) now living in Clearwater Florida no grandchildren; stayed at Kelly until discharged Nov 19, 1963. While at Kelly, played softball for squadron team and Main Kelly Base team—had several squadron championships. Also played on football and volleyball teams. Attended San Antonio Junior College last three semesters at night.
After AF, Worked for Household Finance Company as Manager Trainee, short time then signed on with The National Security Agency April l964; quit Agency and went to US Postal Service Training Instute, but returned to NSA after 13 months in Nov 1974. While at the Agency worked in Production Group A as a video analyst and in Nov 1974 went to Training School as a Analysis instructor and in l974 as a Management Development instructor and later as supervisor/manager, ending up as deputy office chief. Took early Retirement in Dec., l993. While in the Agency after Graduation from JHU taught management courses at Anne Arundel Community College, University Maryland, Howard Community College, and worked as Management Consultant part-time.
During first 10 years at the Agency, played softball on several teams that won numerous Agency championships, also played for Westinghouse Industrial league and made it to AA in Washington area League for few games—could not cut it there. Played football on Agency intramural teams. Quit playing ball and attended Anne Arundel Community College-graduated with AB in 1970 and continued on to U of MD, received a BA degree l972. Went to John Hopkins U and completed MS degree in l974. All part-time except for a two-semesters full-time fellowship received from the Agency—that was great.
Retired Dec 1993, moved back
to PA in home area where grew up. Purchased 40 acres of mountain land and
built Insulated Log home. Since 95 have been selling log homes part-time,
now with Tomahawk Log and Country Homes of Wisconsin. Life is Great!!
