A Karamürsel Survivor

A SHORT BIO

I along with Brian Comstock, Darvin Engel, Tony Kulfan, Charles Mortensen, John Myler, Larry Stein, Joseph Teixera, Richard Warren, and George Mulligan left Charleston AFB for Det 3, July 24, 1959.  At Karamursel we were housed  in a large day room with bunk beds in one of the new barracks until others were completed and rooms became available.   They put five of us in a two man room.   I had good friends at Karamursel.  I enjoyed the trips into the countryside, the towns and Istanbul.  Iremember
the beer blasts on the chartered boats around the Bosporus.  I also remember the revolution, the wild taxi and bus rides, the overcrowded ferry boats, Picadily, and the belly dancers.     I still have a good number of pictures that I took in Turkey.

After Karamursel I was assigned to 4500 Support Squadron AFSSO TAC, Langley AFB, Va. for a short time.  I was then assigned to Det 4, Headquarters AFSCC, USAFSS, Langley AFB.   David Bergstrom was also stationed at Det 4.  I have a copy of orders showing that David Bergstrom and I were appointed members of the Service Club Council there, although I don't remember any service club
meetings.   I do remember going somewhere on base and drinking a lot of coffee and eating pecan pie at some type of meetings.  I also remember going to dances at the Airman's Club and at the NCO Club at Langley.  We played tag football and softball against the guys who worked at NASA at Langley.

I got out of service in 1962 and got married in October of 62.   I graduated from college in 64 with a BA in Political Science and earned a Juris Doctor Degree from Law School in 1967 and practiced law for a few years until I became a Family Court Judge in 1973.   I will retire in June and am looking
forward to some relaxation, hunting, fishing and some travel.   My wife, Sarah, and I have three children, all of whom we were able to put through college with the help of the good Lord.

I am interested in a reunion in Myrtle Beach.  I don't know if I could recall anyone since we all have changed and my memory isn't as good as it once was, but it would be good to get together and reminisce about Turkey and to find out how everyone is doing now.
